Abstract
187,241. Pethoud, S. E. Oct. 15, 1921, [Convention date]. Filtering. - A filter element formed of superposed rings of triangular cross-section, Fig. 2, or of a wire, Fig. 1, coiled helically on a bobbin, is supported on the hollow extension 5<3> of a valve plug 5<2> in a casing 4<2> having inlet and outlet connection 4<100>. With the plug in the position shown, petrol or other liquid to be filtered passes downward through the extension 5<3> and filters inward through the coil. Water &c. separated from the petrol collects in a lower chamber 6 which may be provided with inspection holes or formed of transparent material. The valve plug has an aperture 4<10> through which the liquid can pass direct from the inlet to the outlet while the chamber 6 is removed for cleaning. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a filtering-partition, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), composed of parallel rods held in position by the turned-up edges of a perforated rectangular metal sheet. Fig. 5 (Cancelled) shows a partition formed of a wire coiled in a shallow perforated cup provided with a central nipple. Wire to form a filtering partition may be coiled upon a conical surface, or it may be arranged on the inner surface instead of on the outer surface of a supporting member. The use of the apparatus for the filtration of fluids in general is suggested. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
