Filtering.-The gases &c. from a cylindrical distillation chamber 5 are passed through a hollow cylindrical filter 16 formed of superposed layers of wire netting, perforated metallic sheets or wire coils, on their way to the outlet, and the internal surface of the filter may be cleaned by a worm 7 rotating within it.
