Abstract
463,693. Lifting-jacks. LAKE & ELLIOT, Ltd., and BARRETT, H. R. Oct. 2, 1935, No. 27217. [Class 78 (iii)] A portable linkage-jack of the type used in garages is provided with additional wheels or like supports under the load crutch to take the load. These supports may be fixed in the base frame and the linkage arranged to impart a substantially vertical movement to the crutch, or the supports may be moved in the base frame by the operating mechanism so as to follow the movement of the crutch and remain substantially vertically under it during the whole of the shifting movement. In addition the base is provided with castor wheels on which the loaded jack can be rocked slightly. In the illustrated form in which a crutch 7 is raised by a parallel linkage 8, 6 operated through screw, hydraulic, or lever mechanism 4, by a handle 20, the linkage includes additional wheels 19 which move relatively to the framework so as to remain substantially under the crutch during and after the lifting-operation. The link 6, which is pivoted to the base at 5, is operated by a pair of parallel links 14 pivoted at their upper ends on a shaft 13 and connected at their lower ends to a shaft 15 carrying the wheels 19. The shaft 15 slides in slots in the base frame and is moved by a lever 17 connected to the operating-means 4 against the action of springs. The castor wheels 2, 3 just clear the ground so that the loaded jack can be rocked slightly about the shaft 15. The pivots 10, 5 are carried by a box-shaped member bolted to the base frame at 12.
