463,630. Hydraulic apparatus. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., and MEAD, H. Sept. 27, 1935, No. 26753. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A reciprocable member is operated by liquid pressure to actuate intermittentlymoving apparatus, such as the feed screw of an underfeed stoker, to which it is coupled by a unidirectional, mechanical connection. The stroke is determined by an adjustable stop in the path of an operated part, and the consequent increased pressure is released when the stop is engaged. The feedscrew T is rotated by the cylinder A in the direction of the arrow through pawls Q<1> Q<2> carried on a disc on the screw and by an annular ratchet wheel E loosely mounted on a disc on the screw and driven forward by the cylinder. A cylinder B effects the idle movement of the disc E of the return of the cylinder A. Diametrically-opposed teeth N engage racks A<1>, B<1> on the cylinders A, B which move on stationary rams C, D supplied with oil from a plunger pump through pipes X, Y connected to chambers K, F, each provided with inlet and relief valves. The valves G and H<1> open below and above pressures of prepredetermined value respectively. A nut H<x> admits adjustment of the spring of the valve H<1>. The plunger L is reciprocated by a powerdriven crank. When pressure enters pipe X, the cylinder is moved until it strikes a fixed stop R and the screw is rotated. The cylinder B is retracted during this movement. When the piston L moves to the right, the motion of the cylinders is reversed. The starting positions and stroke of the cylinder A can be varied by an adjustable stop M which engages the toothed segmental member N. When the stop is engaged, excess oil in the cylinder is forced into the reservoir. Excessive rise in pressure during the power stroke of cylinder A is prevented by valve H<1>. A number of oil leads X, Y could be taken to drive different apparatus without using extra valves.
