Abstract
463,582. Glass wool. THERMOLUX GLASS CO., Ltd. (Soc. Anon. Vetreria Italiani Balzaretti Modigliani) Jan. 10, 1936, No. 940. [Class 56] [Also in Groups IX and X] A material particularly suitable for use in making the articles described in Specification 402,633, [Group X], in which glass wool &c. is sandwiched between sheets of glass, is made by laying the glass &c. threads on a rotating drum and subsequently stretching the material so formed. As shown, spinning units 1, 2 move in opposite directions axially over the rotating drum 8. When the material is sufficiently thick, the spinning units, together with separately rotatable drums 9, 10 are moved clear of the main drum which is then stopped. The material is cut and stretched with the aid of a conveyer and an arrangement of rollers. Several different arrangements are described. Fig. 7 shows the material 11 being stretched by rollers 34, 35 .... and then laid on sheets of glass 40 on a conveyer 39. Further sheets (not shown) are laid on top of the material and the edges of the sheets are cemented together. Two or more pieces of material of the same or different colour may be superposed and stretched together. The threads composing the material may be of more than one colour.
