Abstract

<PICT:0463385/III/1> In a process for distilling alcohol from materials such as mashes or crude spirit, alcohol is recovered from the fraction of lowest boiling point leaving the still by washing this fraction in a column with warm water, the dilute alcohol thus formed being returned to the still. The mash is distilled in column still A, fusel oils being withdrawn at point D and pure alcohol at point E. The vapours from the top of the still pass through coolers J, H1 and H2 to a column K in which they are washed with warm water. The dilute alcohol collecting at the bottom of column K returns to the still A through pipe M. The low boiling point substances leave the column K in the form of vapour and pass through coolers N, O, and P to collecting means.
