Abstract

- 462,888. Impedance networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 11, 1936, No. 24812. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] According to one aspect of the invention, a two - terminal impedance element comprises a stretched wire 1, Fig. 1, between magnetic polepieces 2, 3, so shaped that the field diminishes sinusoidally from the centre outwards. The back E.M.F. generated. when the wire vibrates is then zero for harmonic vibrations, and the impedance element exhibits a " resonance " only at the fundamental mode of vibration. Alternatively, the polepieces may be plane and the wire extend by <1>/6 of its length beyond each end, Fig. 8 (not shown) ; the back E.M.F. generated for the 3rd harmonic mode of vibration is then zero. In a further modification, a stretched membrane 8, Fig. 4, is positioned between electrostatic electrodes 6, 7 shaped to give a field varying sinusoidally from the centre outwards. Impedance elements of this last type are indicated at 13, 13<1>, 14, 14<1>, Fig. 7, in a lattice type wave filter. U.S.A. Specification 1,828,454 is referred to.
