[Class 16] In an indexing device for books, periodicals, and the like, of the type in which a number of marker sheets are mounted on or combined with a separate outer cover, with the markers interleaved, the markers 1 are hingedly connected together at points lying beyond the ends of a slot or opening 8 at the inner edge of each marker, through which slot the leaves of the book &c. are threaded, so that the markers can be turned over with the leaves. The device is shown as applied to a periodical 7 having daily sections, and comprises seven marker sheets 1 of stiff paper having stepped index portions 2. The two inner corners of each sheet have lugs 3, and the sheets are arranged in pairs with the lugs connected or formed integrally. The lugs 3, which may be reinforced by linen or other fabric strips 9, are stitched or stapled at the centre joint, and the odd or seventh sheet has an extension which is gummed &c. to the inside of a stiff cover 5. The cover 5 has a central elastic band 6 for retaining the periodical 7 in position. Each leaf of the periodical is threaded through the openings 8 between the pairs of markers 1 to overlie the appropriate marker.
