Abstract
462,358. Orchard heaters. SIMONS, J. E. R., HARRINGTON, A. G., and BATY, J. H. Sept. 3, 1935, No. 24596. [Class 75 (i)] An orchard heater comprises a liquid-fuel receptacle 1 with a cover 16 provided with a flame opening 14 and a plurality of air inlets 2, 3, 4, 6 which open into the receptacle at different levels and are arranged so that the first air inlets to become operative are separated by an angle not appreciably less than 90‹. The inlets are arranged in two separate groups set with their centres at an angle of about 90‹ apart. In each group of inlets, one opening in the wall of the container opens directly into the interior, and other openings communicate with the interior at different levels through shrouds 9, tubes, or their equivalent formed by modifying the wall of the container. If desired, the exterior openings in each group may be in one. The heater is started by igniting a little petrol on the oil, or by igniting a wick which may be supported below the opening 14 by a rotatable bracket. A domed lid may be put over the opening 14 when the heater is not in use.
