Abstract

462,009. Hydro-mechanical variablespeed gearing. FOTTINGER, H. Aug. 30, 1935, No. 24330. Convention date, May 14. [Class 80 (ii)] Comprises a compact arrangement of combined turbo-converter 31 and power-dividing planetary train 30 the planet wheels 33 of which are driven directly from an input shaft I through a connecting member 20 which returns or doubles back (to the left) with respect to the general direction (left to right) of the power flow. The member 20 or carrier is fast on the shaft I which passes loosely through the sun gear 32 of the train 30. The sun gear 32 is connected through a rotary casing 35<1> to the pump vaned wheel 35 of the converter. The annulus 34 of the train is connected through the output shaft II to the turbine wheel 36 of the converter. The guide wheel 37 of the converter is held fast by a brake 381 when the torque in the converter is to be magnified, and is left free by opening the brake 38<1> when the combined device is to be allowed to rotate substantially solid. At 38 is indicated a suitable mechanical clutch for locking the planetary train solid if required. In a form illustrated in Fig. 6 (not shown), the converter is arranged on the input-shaft side of the planetary train. A form is described with reference.to Fig. 7 (not shown), having supplementary planetary gearing. The Trilok and Dellread gears are referred to.
