Abstract

A method of manufacturing clad aluminium alloys comprises applying to a basis alloy a covering layer of corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy containing between 6,5 per cent and 12 per cent of aluminium. Examples are given of such alloys containing respectively 7 per cent and 9 per cent of aluminium. The high magnesium content tends to prevent diffusion of copper from the core alloy into the covering layer. Difficulty in welding may be obviated by interposing between the basis alloy and the covering an intermediate layer of pure aluminium and effecting a diffusion of the covering and/or basis alloys into the intermediate layer.
