[Class 46] Filter elements each comprising a pad 1 of metallic wool in a foraminous envelope 4 are supported one above the other on ledges in a tank 2. Downwardly converging deflectors 6 are attached to the wall of the tank. Liquid under treatment is supplied by a spray pipe 3. The metallic wool may be chemically reactive with the liquid or act as a catalyst.
