Abstract

460,346. Motor vehicles; frames. FIAT SOC. ANON., and BRUSCHI, R. April 3, 1936, No. 9965. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a motor vehicle, the front transverse member of the chassis frame is ring shaped and the engine and gear-box unit is resiliently mounted therein so that the engine projects forwardly and the gear-box rearwardly thereof. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cross frame member 1, secured to the longitudinals 2, is formed with a circular opening in which the power unit 9, 10 is supported with the interposition of rubber cushions 3. A transverse suspension spring 4 and a curved support 5 for the radiator 11 are secured to the top of the frame member, the stub axle supports 8 for the front wheels being carried between the ends of the springs and pivoted arms 6 in parallelogram fashion. The inner ends of the arms 6 are attached to rods 6<a> rotatably mounted on the longitudinals 2 and adapted to be braked by shock-absorbers 7. In a modification, Fig. 4, the engine unit is provided with trunnions 17 mounted in resilient bearings 15 secured by straps 14 to a cross frame member composed of two apertured flanged members 13 welded together back-to-back, the rear end 19 of the gear-box 10 being mounted in a rubber or like bushing 20 secured by a strap 21 to a second cross-frame member 12. The height of the rear mounting may be regulated to adjust the inclination of the unit in the longitudinal direction.
