[Class 38 (v)] In a switch in which energization or de-ener. gization of a magnet b, by means of pushbutton or like switches, causes a contact member e to move into the closed or open position provision for overload is made by making the member e slidable rela tively to the armature a and arranging a com pression spring c<1> be tween the two mem bers ; the two mem bers are normally held latched with the spring c<1> compressed but the latch is released on overload, allowing the spring to expand to break the circuit. The member e is fixed to a rod d which slides in a tube c fixed to the armature a and links h, h<1> are pivoted to the tube and rod, the link h being normally held in the position shown by a latch f. On overload, an electromagnetic or thermal device g trips the latch f, the spring c<1> expands moving the contact member e into the dotted position. This breaks the circuit of the magnet band the armature a falls until it encounters a stop (not shown) and the member e encounters a stop i. In resetting, a manually operated member (not shown) raises the members d, e till the contact member is again latched to the armature. Further operation of the manual member or the energization of the magnet b restores the parts to their original position.
