Abstract

[Class 44] The invention comprises a method of differing between key-operated locks, and between keys of a number of locks and keys, in that the part circular eye of a keyhole is located at the base of a recess e<1> on the outside of one or more of the locks, and providing only keys for such lock or locks, each with a collar L between the stem and the pin of a key, capable of passing to the recessed eye of the keyhole. This method may be used in conjunction with other methods of differing such as differing the widths of keyhole slots, and the thicknesses of keys therefor. Thus the master key h has a collar L which is small enough to enter the recess e<1> of the lock in Fig. 5, which has a wide tapering key-slot, and also a narrow bit h<1> which may enter another key-hole into which the key g could not be inserted. In this case the kev of the second lock could not be inserted into the keyhole shown in Fig. 5, as the key has a collar which is too large to enter the recess el.
