Abstract

459,054. Valves. BUTTERFIELD, Ltd., W. P., and WOOD, F., Otley Road, Baildon, near Shipley, Yorkshire. June 28, 1935, No. 18482. [Class 135] A discharge valve for liquid tanks of the kind in which the valve member co-operates with a seat in the bottom of the tank, and is adapted to be withdrawn for inspection or repair through the top of the tank, has the part of the valve casing in which the valve spindle is guided, detachably secured in position so that it may readilv be withdrawn with the valve member. In the form shown in the Figure the valve member C<1> co-operates with a movable seat C inserted through a lower aperture, closed by a cover D and is universally connected to a hollow spindle C2 slidably mounted in a cover V3. This cover is detachably secured to a perforated wall surrounding the valve member by a series of ball catches V<5>. The spindle is provided with a cross-pin C<4> adapted to engage and dislodge the cover when the valve member is to be removed. When re-assembling the valve this pin is passed through a slot V<8> in the cover so that it can be used to press the cover into position, being afterwards returned to its normal position. The spindle is coupled to a member C<7> slidably mounted in a flanged member C<3> secured to the top of the tank. A further hollow spindle is secured to the sliding member C<8> and carries a pivoted actuating lever provided with a locking catch L4 and a roller L<3> adapted to work along the top of the member C'. In a modification the cover and perforated wall are formed in one piece, the ball catches being housed in a ring secured to the base plate. The spindle C<8> is provided with ports C<9> adapted to cooperate with ports C<10> in the abutment for the loading spring G<1> so as to vent the tank when the main valve is open. According to the Provisional Specification the cover may have key-hole slots adapted to engage headed rods secured to the base-plate. Specification 415,849 is referred to.
