[Class 60] A device for sharpening scissors comprises a base 1 carrying, on a frame 2, a sharpening- stone 3 having therein a notch 4 in which is movable a sharpening-stone 6 carried by a holder 7. The holder is pivoted to an arm 8 by a stirrup 11 which may engage in any of three pairs of eyes 9 to enable the sharpening- angle to be varied, and the lower end of the arm is engaged by a spring 13 located in a slot 14 in the base ; the spring 13 may be replaced by a compression spring between the holder 7 and the arm 8. The face of the stone 6 is curved so that as a blade is moved with its flat face in contact with the stone 3 and its bevelled edge in contact with the stone 6, the sharpening-angle remains constant ; the stone 6 as shown is reversible, end for end, when worn. The stirrup and the end of the holder 7 may be arranged so that the stone 6 may move sideways. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction wherein the stone 6 consists only of the lower half of the stone shown, and also a construction wherein the pivot for the arm 7 is below the stone 3 and the face of the stone 6 is convex. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
