Abstract
458,275. Aircraft control surfaces. SAUNDERS-ROE, Ltd., and ROE, SIR A. VERDON-, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. July 13, 1935, No. 20048. [Class 4] An airbrake flap of the type comprising a surface A, hinged at its forward end to the undersurface of a wing and normally nested against, or in, the trailing part of the wing undersurface is provided with a slat F pivoted to the trailing edge of the flap about an axis parallel to the hinge of the flap and constrained when the flap is opened to adopt a position relative to the flap such that it tends to pull the flap open against the resistance offered by the airstream. In the form shown, adjustment of flap F is controlled by an anchor rod J pivotally secured at its forward end to a fixed pivot K and at its rearward end to a bracket H secured to slat F. According to a modification the pivot points are so arranged that the slat s overbalanced, rod J then acting as a compression member.
