Abstract

457,841. Liquid-fuel burners. GREENAWALT, J. E., 135, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A. May 28,1935, No. 3689/36. Divided out of 457,768. [Class 75 (i)] A rotary liquid fuel burner comprises a tubular fuel receiving chamber 9 having its upper end open to provide an air intake and at its lower end carrying a hollow annular flange provided with spaced radial tapered fan blades 16 extending a substantial distance inwardly from the periphery of the flange, the spaces 20 between such blades constituting fuel ports communicating with the tubular chamber and leading to constricted outlets at the periphery, the leading walls of the ports being tangential at their inner parts a and radial at their outer parts b. The blades 16, which are tapered in vertical section, comprise a series of bosses on the upper surface of a disc 2 formed at the centre with a boss 3 in which is secured a tube 4 rotatably mounted within a bearing 5 supported from the top 6 of a housing H which is supported by flanges f resting on a wall box or plate W positioned around an opening O in the roof R of a furnace. The chamber 9 is formed around the boss 3 by a member having an annular flanged portion 11 and a central frusto-conical portion 12. A second series of blades or bosses 17 with intermediate ports 21 is formed on the underside of the disc 2 and serves to distribute air which passes down the tube 4 to the space between the disc 2 and a lower plate 18. The members 11, 2 and 18 are clamped together by bolts 19. The upper surface of the flange 11 carries blades 23 which impel into the furnace air entering the housing H through an adjustable gate 24. Fuel is supplied through a pipe 15 into an oil well 13 formed in the boss 3 around the pipe 4 and is fed to the ports 20 by centrifugal force together with air from the housing H. The tube 4 is rotated from a motor M through coupling members 29 and 30 which are spaced to provide an air inlet to the tube. Additional air may be supplied through openings 34, 341 in the furnace roof and plate W respectively, the openings being controlled by an annular ported plate 36 rotatably mounted over the plate W. Specification 457,768 is referred to.
