Abstract
457,806. Batteries. HOCHWALD, F., 13A, Tauentzienstrasse, Berlin. June 6, 1935, No. 16452. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 7, 1935.] [Class 53] Evolution of hydrogen in an accumulator employing a zinc halide as electrolyte is prevented or reduced by adding to the electrolyte compounds that are easily reduced and which when reduced are readily oxidized again during the charging of the accumulator. For this purpose compounds of tungsten, uranium, molybdenum, manganese and vanadium may be used, such as ammonium phosphomolybdate. Quinones, quinhydrones, complex cyano compounds and imines may also be used. In an accumulator employing a cathode of aluminium, iron or amalgamated zinc and an anode consisting of a carbon rod covered with active carbon, the electrolyte may consist of a solution of zinc bromide or iodide containing manganese dioxide or ammonium metavanadate with aluminium hydroxide and a small quantity of potassium chlorate.
