Abstract

457,645. Making wire fabrics. SPUHL, E., and SPUHL, J., 7, Lukasstrasse, St. Gall, Switzerland. July 3, 1936, No. 18534. [Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XIV] In a machine for connecting mattress &c. springs by wire clips 14, Fig. 14, a tong member straddles adjacent springs to bring them beneath a pincer member for positioning a preferably sharpended clip over the springs. Mechanism then operates to close the clip, the point piercing the fabric. In use the clip takes the position to the right, Fig. 14. A clip is positioned in a groove of a wheel 13 rotated by ratchet 18 from a crank 19. At the bottom of its rotation the clip is grasped by holding arms 20 when a nose 37 of lever 35 operated by a cam 10 is removed from between the arms 20. The arms are then lowered by the cam 10 and a bell-crank 22. The springs S are inserted between a stationary tong member 39 and a movable member 41. When the arms 20 move downward to lower the clip a roller 45 swings the arm 41 to close the tongs and to bring the springs together. Levers 7 are then operated by cams 5 to move levers 28 to effect the closing of the clip. The springs may be tied by cords 49 fed through a hole in the member 39.
