457,569. Tobacco pipes. SLEPIAN, J., 1115, Lancaster Street, Pittsburg, U.S.A. Dec. 9, 1935, No. 34113. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1934. [Class 130] A slotted absorbent frangible filter plug 14 is of polygonal cross-section and without obtuse angles so that it can be tilted and wedged in the bowl of a pipe. The plug is formed from extruded fired clay which may be flavoured with menthol, mint or wintergreen. The plug is slotted at 21, 22 to assist crushing in situ by a hand tool 32 which is pivoted to the shank 34 of a reamer 35 having bent cutting edges 36. The plug may be cubical, or have square top and bottom faces with a height less than the length of a side of the square ; or it may be triangular in crosssection. Specification 436,434 is referred to.
