Abstract
273,135. Coaton, A. A. Oct. 25, 1926. Percussive drills. - A percussive rock drill is formed by bevel faces 5 intersecting to form a cutting edge 4, the lateral edges of the faces being reaming edges of the surfaces 7 which are part of a cylinder coaxial with the tool, the remaining parts of the cylinder being flattened or cut away at 10 to provide clearance leaving a limited fringe 7. In making the drill, the wing 3 is formed so that its extreme end is wider than the desired finished width of the cutting' edge, and it is then pressed in at 6 to the cylindrical shape and final width. The same principle may be used to form a cruciform bit.
