456,880. Retractive switches ; partly electromagnetic switches. VEREINIGTE EISENBAHN-SIGNAL WERKE GES., Blockwerk, Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 19, 1936, No. 14219. Convention date, June 7, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] A switch for use in railway signalling comprises a spring contact arm 3 held out of engagement with a fixed contact 4 by a plunger 2 supported by a treadle 1 which when depressed by the passage of a train, allows the contacts to close. A permanent magnet 5 or an electromagnet, holds the contacts in the closed position to prevent chattering due to vibration, until the treadle 1 is released to raise the plunger 2. In a modification the magnet is replaced by a pivoted catch actuated by the plunger 2.
