Abstract
366,062. Automatic exchange switches. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, and FORCEVILLE, E. A., 23, Fossil Road, Lewisham, both in London. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28486. [Class 40 (iv).] In an electromagnet for operating a ratchet-drive switch an additional spring is used when the armature is near the end of its travel solely to impart an additional restoring force when the magnet is de-energized. In the form shown, the armature 13 is held in its unattracted position by the spring 15 surrounding the pin 14 which enters the nut 16 against the outer edge of which the free end of the second spring 12 normally rests. The distance between the end of the pin 14 and the outer edge of the nut 16 is slightly less than the armature stroke so that the movement is resisted by the spring 12 only for the last fraction of the stroke, and when the magnet is de-energized, this spring gives an initial additional restoring impulse before again reaching the nut 16. The spring 12 may be laminated and adjustably mounted.
