Abstract

456,763. Winding yarns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, and KIMPTON, W. H., and FULTON, S. M., c /o British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. May 15, 1935, No. 14223. [Class 120 (ii)] A yarn-winding machine for the production of pirns or like packages comprises a gear box 4, Figs. 1 and 2, a winding spindle 6 supported in, and driven by the gearing in, the gear box, an outstanding bearing bracket 10 forming an attachment secured to the gear box and supporting a second winding spindle 11, means external to the gear box, gearing the spindles 6, 11 together, a reciprocating traverse rod 7 and means on the rod for guiding yarn to each of the spindles 6, 11. As shown the spindles 6, 11 are geared together by wheels 9, 13, 12 and the yarns are guided to the spindles by guides 20, 21 on the building mechanism 8, the yarns 16, 17 passing respectively under weighted trip wires 22, 23 so that should either yarn break, the stop mechanism is put into operation. Each wire 22, 23 is pivoted on a stud 24 and carries a counterweighted tail 26 and a hooked tail 27 engaging the end of a pivoted balanced finger 28 which, when a yarn fails, is rocked by a trip wire to lift an extension 29 of the finger into the path of a member on the reciprocating traverse bar 7 which knocks the finger 28, and a latch member 32 to which it is pivoted, sideways and disengages a stop 33 on the latch from an arm 34 projecting from the starting rod 5 which then rotates to stop the machine. The gears are enclosed by a guard 36 and the latch member 32 may be spring-urged to engage the arm 34.
