Abstract

456,456. Dipping or spraying animals. EDMINSON, R., St. Margaret's, South Queensferry, West Lothian. May 29, 1935, Nos. 15580 and 23764. [Class 5 (i)] Sheep or other animals are dipped or sprayed while in a cabinet conforming to the shape of the animal and provided with inwardly-directed nozzles supplied with disinfecting fluid under pressure. The cabinet, made of sheet metal, has an enlarged upper part 10 and a lower narrow portion provided with sloping perforated floor parts 13. The entrance to the chamber is adapted to be closed by a shutter 15 on a hand-operated roller 15<1>, while the exit is formed by hinged door parts 191, 19<2>. In operation, the doors 19<1>, 19<2> are closed, the shutter 15 is raised, and the animal is introduced into the cabinet with its head extending through an opening 23 formed between the door parts. The shutter is then lowered, and fluid is forced through nozzles 24, 26, 27, 29 on to the animal. Surplus liquid passes through the floor and is filtered and returned to the supply tank. Means is provided for holding the animal in position. The cabinets are portable and a number may be supplied with fluid from a single supply system. In some cases, nozzles 37 supplied with compressed air are used for ensuring better penetration of the liquid. When powders are employed, the animal is first sprayed with an adhesive, such as gum arabic and water, by the aid of compressed air, and the powder is then blown over it.
