Abstract

456,235. Vehicle bodies; opening-tops. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., Cowley, and MATON, W. C., 45, Glanville Road, both in Oxford. Sept. 20, 1935, No. 26083. [Class 108 (i)] A panel structure, particularly a sliding panel for vehicle roofs consisting of coincident sheet metal stampings joined together by an adhesive or sound-deadening compound has formed integrally, or has secured thereto, along its margins, channel section members and edge flanges for the ready attachment of other parts such as accessories. The panel comprises an outer member 11, an inner member 12 and an interposed adhesive layer 13. The inner member 12 has formed at the side and rear edges a channel depression 14 and spaced from the front two similar depressions 18, 19. The rear edges are downwardly flanged at 16, 17 and welded while the front edge is formed by crimped over parts 15 which are also welded. Fig. 8 shows the members 18, 19 replaced by attached members 32, 34 having tacking strip holding members 36, 39 for the tacking strips 38, 41.
