Abstract
455,829. Gas compressors and liquid pumps therefor. ZAHM, E., 511, West Delavan Avenue, Buffalo, and ZAHM, G. G., 66, Courier Boulevard, Kenmore, both in New York, U.S.A. Dec. 20, 1935, No. 35304. [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] A pump 29 working in unison with a compressor 10 delivers cooling water into the compressor chambers on the pressure strokes of the compressor. The water is delivered through pipes 43, 46 to diaphragm chambers 39, the water pressure lifts the diaphragms and opens valves 50 to pass the water to the compressor. The upper sides of the diaphragms are subject to adjustable spring pressure and to the pressure of gas in a delivery chamber in which the gas and water are separated before the gas passes to storage. The water in the delivery chamber is cooled, e.g. by a brine circulating coil having a valve controlled in accordance with the water temperature. Gas is admitted to the compressor through a chamber 18 on the under side and is delivered to an upper chamber 24. The water pump is provided with a byepass 70 comprising a valve 74 normally held closed by opposed springs and opened by excessive pressure. The water from the separating tank is redelivered to the water pump.
