Abstract

455,616. Pasteurizing - apparatus. PRESTAGE, E., 74, Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, London. April 23, 1935, No. 12145. [Class 49] Pasteurizing-apparatus for milk, beer, &c., with heat - exchange means for heating or cooling or both comprises a hollow standard which supports one or a number of heatexchange units and forms a common container for the pump 15, tank 12, thermostatic valves and other elements of the apparatus. As shown the heat - exchangers which may be constructed as set forth in Specification 440,332, [Group XIII], consist of plates 2 separated by insulated plates 5 into groups of different function. Steam for heating the heating water in a tank 12 is supplied through a valve and pipe 10 and a thermostaticallycontrolled valve 11. The heated water passes through pipe 14 to a pump, 15 driven by a motor 16, which feeds it through a pipe 17 to a header 18 which distributes it through flexible tubes 9 to the heating zone formed by the series of four plates in the heat-exchanger on the right of Fig. 2, the water returning through further tubes 9, a header 19 and a pipe 20 to the tank 12. A drain valve 29 is provided. Cooling is effected in the group of six plates on the left which are supplied with cooling water, brine, &c. through a pipe 21, a header 22 and tubes 9, the cooling medium returning to a header 23 from which it passes to another header supplying the group of three plates on the right which forms a preheater for the liquid under treatment, the water, brine, &c., leaving finally through a header and a pipe 25. Further cooling is effected in the group of three plates 2 on the left by means of brine admitted through pipe 26 and a header and passing out through a header and a pipe 27 to the brine storage tank. Condensed water is discharged from tank 12 through a pipe 28. Prior to use the apparatus is sterilized with steam after compressed air has been passed through pipe 30 into the cooling apparatus to remove the cooling liquids therefrom. The standard is of pyramidal form and has doors 31 for access to the apparatus therein.
