Abstract

455,613. Folding wheel - barrows. ABBOTT, S. S., 15, High Street, Southall, Middlesex. April 23, 1935, Nos. 12117 and 13086. [Class 108 (i)] A wheel-barrow suitable for garden work comprises a collapsable X-frame and a bag or sack-like receptacle of canvas, &c., carried by the frame. A pair of side bars 1<a> connected by cross rails 1<b>, 1<c> have pivoted at 2<a> to each of them a metal bar 2 the end parts of which are offset as shown. Bars 3, 3<a> are secured to the bars 2, the ends of the bars 3, 3<a> abutting on the bars 1<a> to keep the frame rigid when unfolded. A bag or sack-like receptacle 5 is supported by a cross-rod 6 which can be disengaged from notched members 1<d> on the bars 1<a> to enable the bag to be turned for emptying about a rod 4 which forms a front support for the bag. The rod 4 may also be supported in notches so that the bag may be removed. Wheels 9 are carried by short cranked axles or these may instead be a single central wheel. A handle member 11 formed as a tray to carry tools &c., comprises a rectangular frame pivoted at 12. When the vehicle is collapsed, the bars 3, 3<a> lie parallel to the bars 1<a> and the sides of the tray 11 are aligned with the bars 1<a>. In a modification, the tray 11 is dispensed with, a single straight bar replaces the bars 2, 3, 3<a>, and the frame is supported when unfolded by a pair of struts pivoted each to the upper part of the bars 1<a> and abutting on the cross-bar 4a. Separate handles pivoted to each of the bars 1<a> may replace the combined tray and handle.
