Abstract

455,186. Fountain pens. SAGER, S. M., 285, Vernon Avenue, Glencoe, Illinois, U.S.A. Jan. 10, 1936, No. 944. [Class 146 (iii)] In a fountain pen of the type in which the filling operation is affected by means of a collapsable bulb or bellows which is longitudi. nally compressed by means of a plunger, the bulb or bellows comprises a relatively stiff - walled divergent part 22, Fig. 2, and a relatively flexible convergent part 23 which is adapted to be turned inside out and pushed into the divergent part when the bulb or bellows is collapsed by longitudinal pressure. The bulb is formed with a thick flange 20 at one end, seating on an abutment 21 of the casing, and with a plug 25 at the other end, fitting into the plunger 18. A reinforcing wire 24 may be embedded in the walls. The barrel of the pen is transparent and graduated to measure the supply of ink. A long inlet tube from the feed bar terminates just short of the bulb. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the bulb is double and the plunger 18 has a removable cap 18a with a stem 18b provided with two screw threads 18c, 18d. When it is desired to compress the bulb the thread 18c is unscrewed and the cap and stem withdrawn until the thread 18d engages the thread in the phmger 18.
