Abstract
453,687. Pedal - propelled cycles. RAIMOND, A., 73, Rue Logier, St. Etienne, Loire, France. Dec. 31, 1935, No. 36018. Convention date, March 21. [Class 136 (iii)] In a cycle of the type in which the rider occupies a substantially reclining position to operate rotary pedal cranks, the steering wheel is arranged behind the pedal mechanism, so that steering can be effected by means of a handle-bar mounted directly on the steering- stem of the front fork, without the use of intermediate gearing. The frame is constructed of tubes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and the pedal mechanism 8 is mounted in a bracket 7 at the front end, the stem of the front fork 11 being mounted in the tube 5 and actuated by a handle-bar 13. The front wheel 12 and the rear wheel 10 are arranged close together, with a low seat 14 (with back-rest 18) between, the rear wheel 10 being of normal size. The rear wheel is driven by a single chain 16 guided over a toothed wheel 17, and a variablespeed gear 15 of the type having sprockets of different sizes may be provided.
