Abstract

The invalid chair has two rear wheels driven manually by the occupant. Each of the wheels (5) is actuated by a lever (6) equipped with a handle (48), and coupled to it via a clutch. The diameter of the rear wheels may be less than the height of the seat (1) and they can be mounted below it and in the plane of the side frames (3). They can be roughly the same diameter as the front pages (4). The lever pivot axis (23) is situated forward of that of the rear wheels, levers and wheels being coupled via a reduction gear train (7), which can be reversible.
