Abstract

The mechanism allows the invalid both to steer and drive the chair with the good arm. the coupling device (6) on the wheel axle is actuated by the connecting rod (9) and the hand grip (2). Steering can be effected by wheel (3), slewed by the spindle (4) from the grip (2), and a brake block (8) can be applied by pulling the lever (L) right back. When this occurs an adjustable stop (7) contacts the spring loaded brake block. the coupling device is typically ratchet controlled and drives only one rear wheel. This driven wheel may be coupled to the second rear wheel and the steering wheel (3) may be coupled to the second front wheel.
