Abstract

Bee venom is obtained by causing bees to sting the rough side of a very thin sheet of leather so that the stings just penetrate to the smooth side of the leather and the venom collects thereon and may be dried and removed by scraping. Suction may be applied beneath the leather during the stinging to increase the yield. Known methods referred to are (1) extracting dried and powdered stings with water; (2) inducing bees to give up their venom by subjecting them to ether vapour and then washing them with a small quantity of water; (3) taking up drops of venom released from a sting in a drop of water; (4) causing bees to sting thick moistened filter paper.
