Abstract
In making cast iron alloys by a method in which briquettes containing iron alloys are added to molten iron, the briquettes comprise both alloys such as ferro-chromium containing the metals which are to be present in the cast-iron product and also alloys such as iron-silicon-manganese or silicon-calcium containing oxygen-binding metals. The oxygen-binding constituents are in pieces of larger size than the alloying constituents and are enclosed in more readily melting material, for example cement, than that in which the others are enclosed for example a mixture of cement and calcium carbonate.
