Abstract

452,795. Feeding sheets. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd., 9, Kingsway, London, and ROWLANDS, T., 24, Oakleigh Avenue, Timperley, Cheshire. Feb. 28, 1935, No. 6426. [Class 100 (i)] A rotary valve for use in connection with sheet-feeding apparatus for printing-machines is formed of a stationary casing 1 fitted with end-plates 3, 4, secured in position by screws 5, and a rotary valve 8 mounted on a shaft 6 and formed with a radial passage 23, a transverse passage 24, and two peripheral grooves 21, 22 extending partially around the periphery of the valve 8 and in alignment with ports 17, 18 adapted to connect with air blast devices used in connection with a sheet-separating device. The end-plates 3, is formed with an annular groove 9 connected by a port with the suction side of an air pump, and the plate 4 is formed with arcuate grooves 11, 12 having connection with ports 13, 14 connected respectively to a sheet-forwarding and a sheet separating suction device. Rotation of the valve causes the transverse passage 24 to connect the annular groove 9 alternately to the grooves 11, 12, and thus to connect the ports 13, 14 alternately to the suction side of the pneumatic system. A radial groove 23 in the valve connects the grooves 11, 12 to atmosphere after the suction devices connected with them have operated. The pressure side of the pneumatic system is connected to a chamber 19 integral with the valve casing 1, and the peripheral grooves 21, 22 in the valve connect the compressed air alternately to ports 17, 18 connected to blast devices arranged in connection with a blower foot and a front blower respectively.
