Abstract
452,420. Loud-speakers. WHITELEY, A. H., 19, Alexander Avenue, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Feb. 15, 1935, No. 4908. [Class 40 (iv)] A permanent-magnet moving-coil loudspeaker has an inner polepiece 7 associated with polepieces 8, 12 to provide two gaps in series in the same magnetic circuit for coils 3, 11 attached to a low-frequency cone 1 and a small, rigid, high-frequency diaphragm 13 respectively. The polepiece 7 is of tubular form and has an insert 19 shaped to produce a passage of increasing cross section, preferably of exponential form, which is continued by a horn 20. The insert 19 is fixed to the polepiece 7 by fins 21 and the polepiece, after being centred, is held in position in a magnetic member 22 by a solidified filling 23 of white metal. The magnetic assembly is clamped by bolts 25 engaging rods 24 at the corners of the square central aperture of the member 22. The cone 1 is centred by a spider 4 of resin-impregnated fabric stamped to form curved arms attached to an aluminium ring 6 secured to the cone-housing 2. Dust is excluded from the air-gap by a felt washer 30. The small diaphragm 13 has annular corrugations 14 and is clamped between an aluminium ring 15 and a ring 16 of synthetic resin by bolts 18. The magnet assembly may be enclosed by a casing (not shown) bolted at 28 to the housing 2 which may be provided with lugs 29 for attachment of the loudspeaker to a baffle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 445,935.
