Abstract
452,376. Catalytic pocket igniters. SCHMITT, G. P., 687, Lexington Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Feb. 20, 1935, No. 5453. [Class 75 (iii)] The catalyst chamber 14 is connected by an arm 17 to the hinged lid 2 so that it is slid into a position above or away from the outlet opening 4 of the fuel container 1 when the lid is opened or closed respectively, the arm carrying a rubber or like pad 20 adapted to seal the opening 4 and one or more air inlets 5 in the closed position of the lid. The pad is pressed down by a stud 21 on the lid engaging the arm. The chamber 14 comprises a collar containing two retaining discs 15 for the catalyst and a base having catches 16 for engaging detents 18 on the spring- pressed pivoted arm 17 so that the chamber can be disconnected from the arm when the lid is open for filling the container 1. The catch 11 for the lid is carried by a slidable spring-pressed plate 10. The container is provided with a tube 7, cut-away at the bottom to facilitate filling and a plurality of tubular wicks 9. A lining of absorbent paper or the like may be used in the container.
