Abstract

452,343. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., 63, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Depew, C. ; Oakland Avenue, Oakland, New Jersey, and Ronci, V. L. ; 4009, Foster Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, both in U.S.A.) July 27, 1935, No. 21378. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] The electrode assembly is supported as a unit from the pinch and vibration is prevented by a pair of flexible strips 60, 61, Figs. 1 and 3, of mica or metal, which bear at their ends only against the wall of the envelope. The strips are held by U-shaped clips 47, 48, which are welded to two rods 18, 20 fixed in the pinch and also carry an upper spacer disc 49 for the upper ends of the grid-rods and cathode stay; slots 51 in the disc increase the insulation effect between the cathode stay and controlgrid, support rods. The clips 47, 48 and the spacer disc rest on a domed cap 45, to which the screen 43 enclosing the whole of the electrodes is secured ; the clips enter notches in the spacer disc and prevent movement. At the lower end of the screen 43 is a spacer plate 31 with projections at its edges to engage the screen and with a row of holes for the electrode supports and cathode, and outer holes for the rods 18, 20 ; two metal plates 27, 28 placed under the spacer plate 31 hold it by integral clips 29, 30 and are themselves welded to the rods 18, 20, the plates forming an elongated shield at the bottom of the structure. The anode 25 is supported on a pair of rods 17, 19 separate from the remaining supports and outside the rods 18, 20 ; the anode is preferably carbonized. The valve has an inner control grid with connection 56, 57 to the terminal cap 14, a screen grid and suppressor grid; the screen 43 and elongated shield 27, 28 are connected to the cathode. In a modification the screen 43 is carried by a flat flanged disc 64, Fig. 6, with an inner upturned flange 67 over which is placed the spacer disc 66 attached to the clips 58, 59 holding the flexible steadying strips 60, 61. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a heavy duty valve with a reinforced anode 71, 72, Figs. 9 and 10 (Cancelled), which encloses the electrodes, the two parts of the anode are welded to support rods 75, 76, to which at the upper end are attached the clips 89, 90 holding the spacer disc 85 and the strips 60, 61 ; the tension hooks 88 for the filamentary cathode are on the disc. The lower ends of the rods 75, 76 are mounted in a pair of mica spacer discs 77, 78, which are carried from the pinch by two short rods 82, 83. The upper disc 85 has holes on one side and a slot on the other to space the support rods for the grids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
