Abstract

452,325. Loose covers for books. FORBES, E. W., 2, St. Pauls Studios, Colet Gardens, Barons Court, London. April 26, 1935, No. 12497. [Class 16] A loose cover for books comprises a sheet of stout paper, fabric, &c. formed at one end with a pocket 3, Fig. 1, to receive one cover of a book, and at the other end wth a flap 4 to be folded over the other cover, a handle or loop 9, Fig. 2, attached to the sheet being adapted to be passed through an eye or slit in the pocketed end. The pocket may be formed by folding over the end of the sheet and securing flaps 5 to it. The edge of the pocket may be extended to form a leaf for advertising purposes. The front edges of the leaves of the book are protected by turning a strip 7, forming the end of the pocket, over them, the plies of the part 7 being stuck together or to an inserted reinforcing-strip 8. The handle or loop 9 of string, tape, paper, &c. is attached to the back of the loose cover, and is threaded through an aperture 11 in the protecting-strip 7. The cover may have an opening or a transparent section to expose the title of the book.
