Abstract

Printing.--A mixture of a vat or sulphur dyestuff with a m -mercaptobenzothiazole, a m -mercaptobenzimidiazole or a corresponding disulphide is employed in a printing preparation. Such mercapto compound or disulphide may be unsubstituted or substituted in the benzene nucleus, e.g. by halogen or by nitro, alkyl or alkoxy groups. Their effect is to improve the strength of the prints and the speed of fixation and to stabilize the printing preparations and the unfinished prints. The dyestuff and the mercapto compound or disulphide may be mixed dry and the mixture ground or may be mixed as aqueous pastes or the mercapto compound or disulphide may be incorporated in the printing preparation at any stage. The following examples are specified: (1) The dyestuff 5 : 5<1>-di-(benzoylamino)-1 : 1<1>dianthrimidocarbazole is mixed with m -mercaptobenzothiazole, glycerol, 2 : 6-dihydroxyanthraquinone and water and the mixture is finely ground; (2) One of the following dyestuffs, viz. (a) 5 : 5<1>-dichloro-4 : 7 : 4<1> : 7<1>-tetramethyldithionaphthalenein-digo, (b) the product of oxidation of naphthoxythiophenecarboxylic acid (cf. Specification 15607/07 [Class 2]), (c) the product obtainable by heating mononitromethylbenzanthrone with sulphur, at 220--240 DEG C., is mixed with an aqueous paste containing m -mercaptobenzimidazole and glycerol and a thickening containing wheat starch, water, British gum, industrial gum, tragacanth, potassium carbonate and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate; (3) One of the dyestuffs in (2) or one of the following, viz. (a) the product of the action of concentrated sulphuric acid on the anthrimide from 1 - amino - 4 - benzoylaminoanthraquinone and 5 - benzoylamino - 1 - chloroanthraquinone, (b) 6 : 6<1> - diethoxy - 2 : 2<1> - bis - thionaphtheneindigo, (c) 6 : 6<1>-dichloro-4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-bis - thionaphtheneindigo, (d) perylenetetracarboxylic acid-di-p-anisidide, is mixed with m -mercaptobenzimidazole, glycerol, 2 : 6-dihydroxyanthraquinone and water and the mixture is milled in a ball mill and incorporated in a printing preparation as in (2); (4) The dyestuff from 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoanthraquinone and 5-benzoylamino-1-chloro-anthraquinone is mixed with m -mercaptobenzothiazole, glycerol and 2 : 6-dihydroxyanthraquinone and the mixture is finely ground and incorporated in a printing preparation.
