Abstract

The alkali salts of carboxylic or oxycarboxylic acids of benzene or its homologues employed in the preparation of vat dyestuff pastes in the parent Specification are replaced by carboxylic or oxycarboxylic acids of naphthalene or its homologues. The preparation and use of the pastes is otherwise carried out as described in the parent Specification. Potassium, sodium and ammonium salts of 1 : 2- and 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid, 1-naphthoic acid and of naphthalene dicarboxylic acids are specified. Examples are given of preparations containing 6 : 6<1>-diethoxythioindigo, 4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo, dimethoxydibenzanthrone, and dichlorisoviolanthrone (made by chlorinating isoviolanthrone in nitrobenzene).
