Abstract

451,972. Travelling head cross-cut saws. ROBINSON & SON, Ltd., T., and ROBINSON, C. J., Railway Works, Rochdale. April 5, 1935, No. 10524. [Class 145 (ii)] The canting head of a travelling head crosscut saw machine is pivoted about an exhaust pipe mounted horizontally at one side of the machine and immediately behind the saw, the axis of the exhaust pipe if produced being substantially tangential to the bottom edge of the saw at its point of lowest cutting whereby sawdust created by the saw blade at all cutting positions is immediately passed into the exhaust pipe without any adjustment thereof. The saw 16 is mounted on the spindle 15 of the driving motor 14 carried by the slide 12 movable by the handle 13 on the base 11 ; the latter is pivotally mounted by extensions 10 on the exhaust pipe 9 which is carried by parts 8 on the member 7 mounted on top of the ram 6 which can be adjusted vertically and rotationally in the column 5. Canting is effected by a screw 18 working in a pivoted block 20 and pivoted nut 21 having a locking handle 22. Specification 435,789 is referred to.
