[Class 3 (ii)] In a box sign of the kind comprising rigid characters mounted in front of an illuminated panel A<1>, the characters are supported by rods C, C<1> extending across the panel and engaging in tapered notches D<1>, D<2> in flanges D formed integral with the characters. The panel is preferably illuminated by discharge lamps B, B<1>, B2 which may be lit continuously or intermittently. In a modification, Fig. 4, the characters have spring members E<1> secured thereto which engage in channels E<4> at the top and bottom of the panel. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also an arrangement in which the characters are supported on the rods C, C<1> by spring hooks secured to their rear faces. In another arrangement, the lower spring members E<1> shown in Fig. 4 are dispensed with, and the characters are supported by hooks engaging in the loop formed by the upper spring members. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
