Abstract
In the production of hydrogen cyanide by the process claimed in claim 1 of the parent Specification, the catalyst employed consists of an alloy of platinum with iridium in the form of a gauze from wires the thickness of which is at least 0,1 millimetre. Alloys containing from a few tenths of one per cent to 15 per cent of iridium are preferably employed. The working temperature is preferably 950--1100 DEG C. According to an example, a gas mixture of ammonia, methane, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen is led at 1050 DEG C. through four nets arranged closely behind each other having 500 meshes per square centimetre and prepared from wire of a thickness of 0,15 millimetre prepared from a platinum-iridium alloy containing 3 per cent of iridium.
