Abstract

451,560. Ornamenting. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London. Nov. 30, 1935, No. 33236. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1934. [Class 93] Raised figures are applied to a base that is at least semi-porous by means of an adhesive fabric containing an organic derivative of cellulose inserted between the figure and the base, and applying heat and pressure in the presence of a substance to facilitate adhesion, e.g. a solvent or softener for the cellulose derivative, or water. The invention is particularly applicable for attaching monograms or like decorations to articles of clothing or household use, or for ornamenting panels, walls, furniture, or other objects of wood, beaver board, paper, plaster board or like semi-porous materials. The adhesive fabric may consist entirely or in part of the organic derivative of cellulose in the form of yarns or filaments, or may consist of cotton or other non-thermoplastic fabrics coated or impregnated with the cellulose derivative. Preferably a plasticizer is incorporated in the fabric in which case it is only necessary to wet the assembly before applying heat and pressure ; alternatively, when little or no plasticizer is present, a solvent or softening- agent is applied before heating and pressing.
