[Class 64 (i)] [See also Group XI] A domestic water-heater comprises an electric heater 2 complete in itself in which water is heated to a given temperature and with a discharge pipe 4, in combination with a second and considerably smaller electric heater comprising a water receptacle 7 with an electric heating element and a float 10 controlling a mercury switch 18 in circuit with the element, the pipe 4 delivering warm water from the heater 2 selectively to atmosphere straight through the pipe 4 and outlet valve 5, or when the latter is closed, delivering water to the receptacle 7 through apertures 6 in the pipe 4, whereby the float is operated to close the switch and boil the small quantity of water in the receptacle. Warm water is discharged from the heater 2 by inflow of cold water through a pipe 9. The pipe 4 may terminate in the receptacle 7, and a valve-controlled outflow pipe with a mouth larger than the pipe 4 may be arranged coaxially therewith so that water passes straight through when the valve is open or into the receptacle when the valve is closed. The receptacle 7 has an overflow or vent pipe 22 and a steam whistle 23. A pivoted arm 11 on the float 10 extends into a chamber 14 adjacent the receptacle and operates a lever 15 carrying the switch 18 and extending through a slot in the front of the chamber to indicate on a scale 20 the level in the receptacle. A lamp connected in parallel with the heating element indicates when the latter is in use.
