451,070. Operating sliding doors. NAYLOR, P., Post Office Box 73, Long Branch, Ontario, Canada. Nov. 18, 1935, Nos. 31884 and 31885. Convention dates, Dec. 7, 1934 and Oct. 14, 1935. [Class 65 (i)] [See also Group X] A vertically sliding and tilting door is detachably supported by roller guides on counter - balanced runners 14 moving along the tracks 4, and is guided also on horizontal tracks near the ceiling by rollers 9 mounted on brackets 8. The horizontal and vertical guides are connected by cam guides having flanges for securing to the frame and projections 12 to act as stops for the runners 14. The door is overbalanced when partially supported on the top guides and when the runners 14 are stopped moves into the horizontal guides. To close the door it is pulled by a webbing grip onto the runners 14 and then down. The mechanical actuation of the door is affected by hand-chain 51 and chain 44 passing over pulleys 45, 46, an arm 43 on a runner 42 engaging a link of the chain and the runner being connected by a link 40 to a bracket on the door. The door is cut away on the vertical edges below the centre of gravity about 1¢ inches on each side to allow the necessary swinging movement and a metal strip is secured to the outer face on each side projecting beyond the cut-away part to overlap the frame.
